Is chocolate massage good for the skin?

Published: 20th June 2013

I have a guilty secret!

I freely admit that I am an enormous chocolate lover (not that I am actually enormous - I just like chocolate... a lot!) It has even been known for me to get out of bed in the middle of the night to raid the fridge and kitchen cupboards, in my search for the enticing bar or two!

So you can imagine my sheer delight when I discovered that there was another way for me to enjoy chocolate, besides eating it - and that’s by having it included in body massage products!

Chocolate has for years been considered an indulgence by many cultures. However, more recently, scientists have found that cocoa products contain high levels of powerful antioxidants that help fight ageing and prevent disease. Additionally, a chemical in chocolate is linked to feelings of excitement, attraction, and pleasure. Because chocolate has a creamy texture and a comforting fragrance, it’s great for spa treatments - especially massage. Also, cocoa is high in flavonoids, which are good-for-you phytonutrients that offer both antioxidant and protective benefits.

So there. Chocolate is great for anti-ageing and softening the skin (well, in beauty products anyway)!

If a chocolate massage sounds like your idea of heaven, why not pop along to any Bannatyne Spa in England, Wales or Scotland? They offer a wonderful Chocolate Heaven spa day package, which includes a Chocolate Indulgence Full Body Massage for only £49.50.
