SpaStaySelect visit to the Clumber Park Hotel in Nottinghamshire

And we even got the right weather to make the most of the outdoor hot tub!

Published: 27th May 2014

Our first impression of the Clumber Park Hotel’s surrounding area was lovely, with seemingly never-ending Bluebells (it was Early May) and lush green countryside nearby.

Making our way from the car park, which had more than ample parking capacity, (handy if you’re planning a big occasion and need space for lots of guests) to the hotel reception to Check In, we looked forward to the start of our spa break at this four star venue. The exterior of the hotel had bags of country house charm and this carries through into the open planned reception and seating area.

We made our way to our spacious Executive twin rooms to get ready for our spa treatments. All Executive rooms not only come with the facilities of a standard room (en suite bathroom, TV and tea and coffee making facilities), but they also include a soft drinks and snacks package plus upgraded Elemis toiletries and lovely views (ours was of the courtyard).

Accessible through the courtyard or from the hotel, meaning you can make your way to the spa whatever the weather outside; the New Leaf Spa has all you need to escape for a few peaceful hours. On entering the spa you’ll go past the New Leaf Spa Café (serving sandwiches, snacks and drinks), a comfy seating area and tables to enjoy a bite to eat after exercising in the fully equipped gym. Separate from this seating is the small waiting area, where you can relax with a magazine before your treatment. Then it was time for my 55 minute Elemis modern skin facial (which is included as part of the ‘Beauty and the Feast’ one night spa break).

The treatment from start to finish was fabulous. It began with spa therapist Layla asking about my skincare routine, any concerns I had or anything I would like her to focus on. Using Elemis products, the facial consisted of many different stages, all of which targeted different areas of the face. Sadly the treatment did have to come to an end, but at least we could continue snoozing on one of the giant leather beanbag chairs in the relaxation room with a glass of lemon infused water. It was so cosy in there with all the pillows, duvets and magazines that we really didn’t want to leave. We then made our way to the sauna and steam room before finally lazing on a couple of loungers by the pool before reluctantly leaving the spa to get ready for pre-dinner drinks at the Bar. A great place to relax before dinner, the bar enjoys the same lovely views of the landscaped courtyard that the restaurant does.

With ample choice (including some delicious sounding Vegetarian dishes), the Courtyard Restaurant caters for a variety of culinary palates. We all chose different dishes (Clumber beef burger with salad and chips, Chicken breast, coq au vin garnish, creamed potatoes and buttered greens, Double cooked belly of pork, sticky red cabbage with pommes Anna and Black Sheep Ale battered haddock, chunky chips, peas and mint purée, tartar sauce) choosing from both the ‘Main Dishes’ and the ‘Classics’ menu. Having all been very pleased with our choices we couldn’t help but be impressed by the quality of the food. The hotel staff helped add to our dining experience, by being both friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. Once completely stuffed (well the sticky toffee sponge, toffee sauce, rum and raisin ice cream dessert just sounded too tempting!) we made our way back to our rooms for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Taking full advantage of the spa facilities the next morning, we couldn’t wait to get back to the New Leaf Spa for a dip in the outdoor hot tub- what a fab way to start the day! Surrounded by trees and with early morning sun streaming through, it was a tranquil start to what would be a busy day of exploring and travelling as we made our way to the next spa venues.

After heading back to our bedrooms, we made our way to breakfast, which is served in the Courtyard Restaurant. A buffet of pastries, juices and fruit were on offer whilst the breakfast team took your choice of tea, coffee and cooked breakfast when you sat down. This ensured your choice of piping hot breakfast was available (no running out of bacon and eggs before you get there)!

Just as quick and easy as checking in, check out was also a breeze, made simple by the friendly and helpful reception team. As we left new guests had already began arriving for the wedding taking place in one of the stylishly decorated events rooms later that day. How exciting!
