Are you having a laugh?

You can't be serious?

A couple of weeks ago a few of us at SpaStaySelect had a very enjoyable spa break at a stunning venue and on the drive home we were discussing how we felt about our experience there.

We all agreed that the venue’s location, the comfy beds, spa treatments, cuisine and customer service were top notch and were everything we had hoped for and more…. and we had thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

We felt ‘lighter’ (not literally- as we had eaten extremely well!) in spirit, more relaxed, less frazzled, pampered and…. happy!

Then it hit us – Happy!

Realisation dawned that we had been smiling and laughing a great deal of the time, be it together whilst benefiting from a variety of beauty treatments, or over a few evening cocktails; or enjoying a joke with a staff member, or joining in the banter of other guests we had met.

Until that moment, we hadn’t given much thought to the fact that we all get so caught up with concentrating on daily tasks, achieving deadlines, fulfilling family commitments and digesting world events- that we didn’t realise how little time we spend laughing.

So, we did some research about laughter and discovered a few things:

Did you know that…?

Apparently, when we laugh we can change physiologically as we stretch different muscles in our body and our face, our blood pressure goes up and we can get more oxygen to our tissues.

Laughing can decrease stress hormones and increase endorphins (the body’s feel -good chemicals) which can enhance feelings of wellbeing!

So - we would now ‘happily’ recommend that we all laugh or giggle more often, we should try not to take life too seriously, we should spend time with other people who like to laugh a lot…. and we should certainly take #TimetoUnwind and #LaughEveryDay
